Chapter 191: Mistaken Identity

「Haah? Who the hell are you?」

The interrogator snarled, disgruntled as his tone of voice made no attempts to conceal his disgust. Needless to say, he was rather resentful over having his wondrous moment of torment being disrupted once more, and so directed his ire at the intruders who, quite frankly, should not have been able to enter.

Were he in his normal state of mind, however, the owner of that brawny frame would have realised that he shouldn’t have lashed out so quickly. After all, seeing how the guards standing outside the interrogation chamber had strict instructions from his superiors not to let anyone pass, those who did enter had the necessary authority to overturn such commands.

And such individuals—including the platinum blonde woman and her bearded escort with a lean stature—were not people who the interrogator could afford to offend.

「Miyazaki Ken, General. You’d do well to remember that, boy.」

「Ngh! Sir!」

The moment that the lean man stated his name, the interrogator wasted no time as he instantly stood at attention. Upon realising the blunder he had made, the interrogator’s complexion paled severely, cold sweat pouring down his neck in the face of learning the true identity of the person before him.

The name Miyazaki Ken, to his knowledge, belonged to a military officer who had helped obtain success in countless operations and scrambles in his prime. Due to his outstanding performance spanning several years of long service, he had even been commended by several high-ranking officials, national and international alike. This recognition, along with his long history of accomplishment, made him an increasingly important asset to the country of Japan.

Simply put, he was an individual with a significant amount of influence.

Chapter 190: The Unlawful Law

「C’mon, you fucker! We know it’s you!」

*smack*

A sharp sting echoed through the poorly ventilated room as Saito Junichi felt a burning sensation against his cheek. Yet, as he was used to pain, he was barely affected by the red ichor that spilt from his swollen lips as he turned his gaze upward to look at the one who had spurned him so.

Yet, even as he squinted his eyes, he had a hard time trying to make out the features of the individual before him. Not because of the lack of lighting in the room steeped in shadows, but because of its only light source shining directly into his retinas.

Needless to say, this blinding luminance caused the boy to avert his gaze from its origin, resulting in him sending a stalwart glare back at his assailant. Despite his front lacking any detail whatsoever, the shadows cast by his frame led Junichi to believe he was a bulky man, likely of the brawny musclehead category.

「Hou~ I don’t like that look in your eye, maggot!」

*thud*

Interlude 25: Taken Away

-This occurred approximately half an hour prior to Sora receiving Rin’s phone call-

「*yawn* Alright, so what do you want to talk about?」

An ever familiar yawn escaped the lips of one Saito Junichi, who was ruffling his dark hair as he lazily sank his weight into his back. Currently, he was at his apartment, relaxing as he sat on the window sill situated in his room.

He had more or less just returned from the 【Organisation】 after having seen all of the girls back to their respective homes. Of course, the only exception to this was Minamoto Rin, who was peculiarly adamant in wanting to discuss some personal matters. Thus, instead of taking her back home, Junichi had brought her into his apartment instead.

Naturally, seeing how they both lived in the same complex, he had technically walked her back home as well. Nevertheless, since he was tired, he decided that it would be best for him to relax while having a chat with Rin, and so chose to do so in his room.

Now, it was at this time when Masaru and Mana were being assaulted by a certain dark-haired [Counterpart] back at the school. And, needless to say, neither of the mercenaries in the room had even the slightest notion of said events transpiring. If they did, then they would be having a very different conversation right now.

Yet, as they were completely oblivious towards the crisis that Mana and Masaru currently faced, the two teenagers continued their business as they settled down in Junichi’s room.

–or at least, one of them did.

Chapter 189: Rescue

The sweltering summer atmosphere was suddenly transformed into a hot blast of wind which buffeted the surroundings, as an additional intruder barged in on the scene. The blue blur barrelled through the air, setting off shockwaves one after another as she ripped through the air with reckless abandon. And then, quicker than the eye could see, the cerulean-haired, grey-eyed devil slammed her knee straight into 《Cross’s》 diaphragm.

Needless to say, it wasn’t difficult to determine who this mysterious intruder was, for after having transferred all of her momenta into her grandiose kick, the slender body twisted in the skies before landing cleanly back on her feet, raising her head as she exposed her face to the open air.

A visage with a pair of sharp canines and mischievous features which could only belong to one person: the girl designated as the Blue Devil by the dark-haired youth himself, Miyazaki Sora.

And she, the 〚Hurricane〛, had arrived just in time to save her underclassmen from certain doom.

「Oof! Perfect landing!」

A raucous cheer escaped the blue devil’s lips as her features contorted into a cheerful grin. And, with her trademark canines jutting out like a wild cat, the girl’s grey eyes shone with a sharp light as they carefully stalked the [Counterpart’s] figure—or rather, its afterimage.

Due to her sudden strike landed against her target’s torso, Sora ended up launching 《Cross》 across the rooftop and straight into the fencing. The only problem was, as the fence had been previously mangled due to one of the many explosions that had occurred during the previous confrontation, the entity’s flight path was not hindered as he went through the hole in the fence and plummeted to the ground.

The irony of how the roof’s fencing had failed to perform the one task it was there to fulfil aside, the reality of the situation was that such a fall would barely harm the dark-haired entity.

–though that was the least of the worries on the blond-haired spectator’s mind.

Chapter 188: A Desperate Struggle

「Nngh……damn it……」

A deep groan came from the blond-haired delinquent as the white noise subsided from the surroundings. Rubbing his forehead in agony, the young man opened his squinted eyes, eyelids fluttering as his pupils adjusted to the scenery before him.

And the moment that he overcame his temporary blindness, Isayama Masaru couldn’t help but have his breath taken away by the scene reflected in his retinas.

「H-Holy……what the hell happened here?」

The 〚Lion〛 murmured in wonder, his mouth agape in bewilderment as he stared at the decimated rooftop. During the assailant’s initial entrance, the concrete-covered roof had been subjected to the abuse of flames and explosions, so the scenery had already been scarred prior to the light-emitting collision that just occurred.

Yet, judging from the large, 5-cm deep trench etched into the pavement, it was apparent that the destruction caused by the latter explosion was several degrees more severe.

And the one who caused this indentation, which had spread out into a linear fan with Masaru as the starting point, was nowhere to be seen. Instead, an outline of his silhouette could be seen in the now-absent part of the fence, which itself had been mangled outwards over the edge of the roof due to the force of the explosion.

Simply speaking, the attacker had been blown away. A fact that made Masaru want to jump for joy, as he never thought he would have escaped that encounter alive.

Or at least he would have, had he not found himself fretting something even direr.

Chapter 187: Abrupt Assault

*boooooom*

「Kyaaah!!!」

A shrill cry escaped Miyazawa Mana’s lips as a deafening roar filled the campus. The thunderous shockwave ripped through the air, tearing up the rooftop as the malicious gust kicked up dust and debris into the atmosphere.

This violent blast forced the surroundings to be plunged into a thick cloud of smoke, the haze obscuring one’s vision while the ear-splitting rumble overpowering one’s sense of hearing.

This void would not last long, however, as gravity eventually fulfilled its role. Shortly after time had lulled the static, the dust finally settled and the fog subsided, revealing the tattered body of one Miyazawa Mana, unconscious as her injured frame lay lifelessly on the floor.

–or at least, that’s what the worst case scenario would have been, had a certain individual not risked his own life in her stead.

「M-Masaru-kun?」

Mouth agape and eyes widened, the jet black beauty’s charming features were distorted with horror, her face flushed a shade of white and green as her contracted pupils trembled at the sight before her. Yet, even as she was filled with dread, Mana couldn’t help but murmur the name of her saviour, desperately praying for his safety to whatever deity that would listen to her.

Of course, the reason for the poor girl’s distress was because of the wretched state of the delinquent who shielded her. Just seconds before the explosion, the 〚Lion’s〛 honed instincts informed him of incredible danger, and so made a snap decision as he leapt in front of Mana and pushed her into his chest. In doing so, Masaru was able to ensure that his entire frame covered her body—-a strategy that, although not optimal, was the best that he could manage to prevent his crush from being harmed.

And because of this, the young man’s back had suffered most of the damage from the abrupt explosion.

Chapter 186: New School Life – The 〚Grace’s〛 Circumstances

It went without saying that the [Scarlet Ashes’s] victory over their seniors in the [Organisation] was an event to be celebrated. Furthermore, when considering that Saito Junichi’s addition into the invader-fighting corps would greatly strengthen their cause, it couldn’t be helped that things had become quite lively at Gabriel Gaston’s headquarters.

At the same time, however, the dark-haired youth had no idea that the events playing out behind the scenes would eventually lead to one of the largest turning points in his life.

And, believe it or not, one these unsuspecting pieces in the giant puzzle of fate had nothing to do with the disciples that had just overcome a difficult challenge, nor was it the entity shrouded in obsidian who was currently facing one. Instead, it was the person who mattered the most to the dark-haired youth; the person he wanted to protect more than anyone.

It was she who would soon become the trigger of this catastrophe.

And currently, she was—

Chapter 185: The Night No One Knows Pt 2

「*sigh*……」

A deep breath of air escaped the brown-haired woman’s pursed lips, her slumped shoulders betraying her heavy heart. Her average, yet well-arranged features crinkled slightly, losing its normally refined edge as they buckled into a frown. Yet, even with her brow furrowed, the woman’s charms were by no means hindered by her foul mood.

「*sigh*……I can’t believe I let him escape…」

Sakamoto Maria sighed once more, her gaze downcast as she pondered deeply about her mishap. Needless to say, her current sombre mood was a result of her reflecting on the events which took place not too long ago.

Specifically, her close encounter with the shadow who was suspected to be the notorious mercenary of blood and iron, and how she had let him escape.

Having come upon the hooded figure of a red and green-eyed silhouette, Sakamoto Maria immediately held him at gunpoint, arresting him without a moment’s hesitation. Yet, unable to reign in her curiosity, she asked the man the remove his hood, revealing his face so that she could expose the true identity of the mercenary that had eluded the law for so long.

Yet, it was this naive desire to unmask him that was the root of her folly.

Chapter 184: The Night No One Knows

It was in this manner that the dark-haired youth and his temporary disciples had prevailed over Gabriel Gaston’s highly trained troupe of otherworldly warriors. As for what happened to the [Alpha Team] after the bout, they were taken into the care of the 【Organisation’s】 medical team to recuperate for the time being.

Needless to say, the girls were worried about their opponents, who had been defeated by their strategy. Yet, considering that the challengers were also exhausted, the group had adjourned for the day, and would later reconvene to discuss the future once everything had settled over.

And so, this was how the curtains had closed on the Fated Fight between the [Scarlet Ashes] and the [Alpha Team].

However, as this was going on, there was one particular individual who would have been involved in the ordeal that was noticeably absent. A person whose name came up only once throughout the entire event.

Well, rather than calling them a person, it would be more accurate to describe them as an entity.

Chapter 183: Fated Fight – The Aftermath

The details of what had happened after Shizuka Manami had been eliminated from the match was truly just that: a mere detail.

With the battlefield having been submerged in a thick cloud of smoke, it was child’s play for the 〚Assassin〛 to finish off the remaining stragglers of her opposition. And, with no way to either dispel or escape from the blanket of dark grey mist, the [Alpha Team] was rendered helpless as they were swiftly eliminated from the match.

Granted, the duo of pink and grey did not sit idly by. That being said, their token resistance was so insignificant in the face of Rin’s expert stealth techniques that the finer points needed no elaboration.

And so, after much struggling, the fated match had finally reached its conclusion.

『The match has ended! The winners are the [Scarlet Ashes]!』

The feminine voice announced, her words amplified through the speakers fitted in the room as they rang in the ears of the participants. Of course, considering that the [Alpha Team] had already been eliminated, the only ones who had the privilege of hearing this message were the victors of this match.

And amongst these survivors, one, in particular, heaved a sigh of relief in the face of this news bulletin.
